Whoever wants to live has to build

The thing with the socket perhaps best explains the principle. There was a customer who preferred the socket on the other side of the double bed. With normal house construction, it would now go like this: the planners reschedule, the craftsmen build, and at the end of the day there are 800 euros in additional costs on the bill. “Only for moving a single socket, crazy!” Says Carsten Rutz. Rutz is the chairman of the board of the German Terraced House AG in Cologne. His people calculated it exactly. They also checked what it would cost if they simply built a second power outlet in every bedroom in the future. Result: The house would hardly be ten euros more expensive. “Since then, the second socket on the parents’ bed has been standard,” says Carsten Rutz. And light up for “Standard”
