The management of the glass manufacturer has agreed to postpone its social plan for a few weeks. It remains to be defined how many of the 201 personnel threatened with losing their jobs will benefit from the concluded SME.


Operational “during the year 2023”, the new production tool must “improve the energy efficiency as well as the overall environmental performance of the production” of the site via a “considerable” reduction in energy consumption and carbon emissions. , according to the official press release. In other words, allow the site to meet current environmental standards, the thresholds being largely exceeded for the time being.

It should be noted that this modernization investment will be supported “by investment aid in favor of environmental protection”, specifies the Ministry of the Economy, without however fixing the amount. The latter depending on the costs eligible for this aid. A financial boost from the government that Franz Fayot (LSAP) justifies by the desire to “support the continued development of a high added value industry” and which allows the Minister of the Economy to perpetuate the presence of a company present in Luxembourg for four decades.

As a reminder, the realization of this investment comes after months of social tensions and the stated desire of the tenant of the ministry of Boulevard Royal to meet with the shareholders of the company on the merits of maintaining an activity in Luxembourg. . To date, the American company employs around 450 people in the Grand Duchy and merged its Dudelange and Bascharage sites in August 2020.
