There has been tremendous progress with BioNTech and Pfizer’s corona vaccination. Until now, the necessary storage at -70 degrees was a major obstacle to vaccinations, and the corresponding logistics were complicated.
It is now clear that the prepared vaccine doses remain effective and can be used over a longer period of time, even at higher temperatures. That comes from a report from BioNTech.
According to this, the vaccine can be stored or transported for a maximum of six hours at temperatures of 2 to 8 degrees. The transport should take place in specially equipped cool boxes.
Thus, the vaccine can be prepared and diluted in special centers and then transported to the home of the people to be vaccinated. Until now, this was hardly feasible due to the difficult logistics. Vaccination in general practitioners’ practices also appears to be easier, but this has not yet been an issue. This increases the flexibility of using the vaccine significantly.
It is also confirmed once again that six vaccine doses can be drawn from one vaccination vial. So far, only five cans were allowed to be drawn, the remaining liquid had to be disposed of.
