The digital wake-up call from the Corona crisis makes it possible: Information technology is giving Germany new jobs and an economic stimulus this year. But there is also a problem child in the industry.

Berlin – From an economic point of view, the Corona crisis is both a curse and a blessing. “The pandemic is a clear digital driver,” explains Achim Berg as President of the local digital association Bitkom. As early as 2020, his industry got through the crisis relatively well with minimal sales losses to almost 170 billion euros and a slight loss of 8,000 to 1.2 million jobs. For 2021, hardware manufacturers in particular, but also software companies and cloud providers, are again optimistic that they will even trump the pre-crisis level again. Not every industry can say that about itself.
