(ASdN) – After falling in November, inflation is on the rise again. In December, households saw their overall bill increase by 0.3%. But according to Statec, the impact would nevertheless be much greater for motorists.

For the last month of the year, car enthusiasts have indeed had to put more hands in their pockets. On average, they paid 1.6% more for a liter of gasoline, and up to 4.3% more for a liter of Diesel. However, these figures should be put into perspective since compared to the same period a year earlier, the prices of products derived from black gold fell by 14.8%.

In an attempt to limit the spread of covid-19 in Luxembourg by people who have spent the end of year celebrations abroad, rapid tests will be offered to all passengers passing through the airport. And this, from this Saturday.

With the school holidays, the prices of plane tickets have also skyrocketed. Compared with November, their price increased 22.4%. For package tours, take-off is more limited with an increase of 6.1%.

At the supermarket checkout, however, the situation is more mixed. In the space of a month, the prices of food products fell by 0.8%, especially for fresh fruit and vegetables (-4.7 and -5.7%), jam and honey (-4.4%) or alcoholic drinks (0.6%). In contrast, poultry increased 1.6%. Breakfasts also weigh more heavily in the balance with a 4% increase in cereals.

In view of the evolution of prices, Statec revises the inflation rate for the year 2020 upwards. On average, it now stands at 0.6% over one year. If this increase does not lead to an index, the latter nevertheless approaches it. However, at the start of the year, this did not prevent the increase in the minimum social income, the Allowance for expensive living (+ 10%) and the REVIS.
