Like all businesses, car dealerships will be able to restart their activity on January 11. Something to reassure the organizers of the Autofestival, which almost stalled at the start of 2021.

After a inevitably gloomy 2020, the Luxembourg automotive sector had taken another blow on the head at the end of December. With the obligation for so-called non-essential businesses to lower the curtain (including car dealerships), professionals were already seeing the start of 2021 under the threat of the cancellation of the flagship event of the market: the Autofestival. On Monday, government announcements reassured the sector.

While car dealerships will have to remain closed from December 26 to January 1 (due to new anti-ovid measures), mechanics will still be able to troubleshoot or maintain vehicles entrusted to them.

Yes, the Autofestival should be able to take place from Monday 25 January (and for two weeks). Unless there is a turnaround linked to the health crisis, the various car manufacturers present in Luxembourg will be able to offer their attractive purchase and take-back offers until February 8.

Philippe Mersch confirmed this on 100.7, and the president of the Federation of Automotive Distributors and Mobility (FEDAMO) will hold a press conference to present the 47th edition on January 11.

The fact remains that if the sector has seen the number of its sales drop byaround 20% Last year, it will be difficult to make up for this delay from the start of 2021. Indeed, it will not be the crowd from previous editions that should crowd around the models. Moreover, the garages will offer a new system to accommodate potential buyers under the best conditions of health security.
