How happy those happy times were can usually only be seen in retrospect. Take Daimler and BMW, two muscles at the heart of German industry. Over the years it went up, from record to record, from 4, 6, 8 to over 10 billion euros in profit at Daimler, in the years 2010 to 2017. And from 3.2 to 8.7 billion euros at BMW im same period. After that: profit decline, profit collapse. And now: Corona. And anyway: mobility turnaround, transformation, the usual buzzwords.
The two carmakers are only a small sample, a symptom of the impression that the solid profits in many companies are falling. That we read less about records than about warnings. But is the feeling right?
