Jumbo and Vermaat further develop the La Place restaurant concept, in which both parties contribute their knowledge and expertise.
Jumbo remains the owner of the La Place brand, six of its own restaurants, four station locations and the (inter) national franchise relationships. Vermaat will take over the employees, assets and operations of Jumbo’s other 44 La Place restaurants. This collaboration allows Jumbo to further focus on the expansion plans of the La Place Express formula and the rollout of La Place products within Jumbo Supermarkets. Vermaat continues to build on its strong position in the Dutch catering market thanks to the intended strategic cooperation. Financial details are not disclosed.
We consider the intended strategic partnership with Vermaat to be a bull’s eye for a healthy and successful future
Colette Cloosterman-van Eerd, CCO of Jumbo: “With Vermaat as a strong cooperation partner on board, the future of La Place in the Netherlands looks bright. In the exceptional year 2020, in which we had to keep our restaurants largely closed, we looked at improvements and innovations on various fronts that would help us emerge stronger from the corona crisis. Not only have we come up with adjustments to our restaurant concept that are more in line with this time. We have also investigated possible partnerships that could strengthen the restaurants operationally. We consider the intended strategic collaboration with Vermaat to be a bull’s eye for a healthy and successful future. “
Rick Zeelen, CEO Vermaat Groep: “The long-term strategy we have deployed is to grow strongly at home and abroad. The corona period has not been easy for Vermaat and our employees, but we have never lost sight of this long-term goal. We continued to invest in new concepts and new markets. For example, two La Place restaurants (Designer Outlet Roosendaal & Eindhoven Airport) have been part of Vermaat’s range for some time now. The broadening of the collaboration with Jumbo and La Place is a logical continuation that fits perfectly in our strategy. “
COR and employees
The plans have been presented to the Works Council of Jumbo and the Works Council of La Place; Vermaat’s Works Council has already issued positive advice. Subject to a positive advice from the participation of Jumbo and La Place and after approval by the Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), the collaboration will start on April 1, 2021. At that time, Jumbo will transfer all 44 La Place restaurants to Vermaat. Approximately 1,300 employees of these restaurants will also transfer to Vermaat and will retain their current employment conditions. Some of the employees at the La Place Service Office will also transfer to Vermaat.
