Lufthansa and Vereinigung Cockpit agreed on new cost reductions

Lufthansa has reached an agreement on further cost reductions with the pilots union Vereinigung Cockpit. “This means that the current savings measures will not only be maintained in the coming year, but will be expanded through further measures,” reported the MDAX-listed company on Wednesday. In return, Lufthansa has ruled out operational dismissals for the pilots of Lufthansa, Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa Aviation Training and a subgroup of Germanwings pilots until March 2022.

The measures include an extension of short-time working for the coming year, a reduction in working hours with an equivalent salary adjustment and the suspension of wage increases, according to Lufthansa. Talks with Vereinigung Cockpit are to be continued in 2021.

“I am pleased that the cockpit employees will continue to make substantial contributions to the crisis management. We want to use the term of the crisis collective agreement to agree sustainable structural solutions with Vereinigung Cockpit as a reaction to the changed framework conditions and to be able to avoid dismissals even after the term ”, says Michael Niggemann, Board Member for Human Resources and Legal, Deutsche Lufthansa AG.
