BioNTech and Pfizer: Next billion dollar deal with US government for COVID-19 vaccine

BioNTech and its sales partner Pfizer will deliver an additional 100 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine BNT162 to the US government. The biotech company from Mainz puts the order value for the additional 100 million doses at 1.95 billion dollars. This means that a total of 200 million doses will be delivered to the United States by the end of July 2021, including at least 70 million of the additional vaccine doses by June 30, 2021.

“With these 100 million additional doses, the United States will be able to protect more people and hopefully end this devastating pandemic faster,” said Albert Bourla, chairman and chief executive officer of Pfizer.

“We see the purchase of additional doses from the U.S. government’s vaccine quota as a clear sign of confidence and trust in our vaccine and our ability to deliver it. Our goal remains to provide a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine to as many people in the world as possible, ”said Prof. Ugur Sahin, CEO and Co-Founder of BioNTech.

In 2020 BioNTech and Pfizer will produce 50 million cans of BNT162, and in 2021 it will be 1.3 billion cans. The vaccine has been approved on an emergency basis in the US for a few days.
