Will PornHub’s stampede inflate blockchain and Bitcoin (BTC)? – Cryptocurrencies

Hmmm, Pornhub, the sultry world leader that I no longer need to introduce, France being the 5th biggest supporter of this one! After being brought to the forefront with the departure of Paypal in November 2019, the porn giant is plagued by other legal issues. At the origin of this crisis, the lack of reaction of the MindGeek group’s platform regarding videos including minors or profiting from sex trafficking. But what does this have to do with cryptocurrencies?

Porn and crypto hand in hand

For the more puritanical of you who don’t know, PornHub has premium content, allowing access to exclusive videos in Full HD quality or even virtual reality ! Except in exceptional circumstances such as during the first confinement, this subscription has a cost: 9.99 € per month.

If you are feeling like a patron, it is also possible to purchase the full lovemaking videos of your favorite individuals. PornHub like Youtube is about sharing above all and power to users! But I digress. The common point between these two features remains the way to adjust them.

These are indeed rDiscreetly adjustable by Visa and MasterCard credit cards. Funny enough, the site had added support for cryptocurrency Verge (XVG) in April 2018 with the slogan: Future has cum to an end. Note that unlike English speakers, the very name of Le Verge is rather smiling as a French speaker.

When adding, many wondered if the porn world was going to democratize cryptocurrency, as it had already done for K7s or the internet. We had seen that few users used XVG and we wondered why not just accepted BTC … In November 2019, Paypal advised that he was severing his relationship with PornHub. With the XVG experiencing impressive growth, would the start of adoption take place? Well… no, because we could still use Visa and MasterCard. Today things are changing.

When the fiat goes, the cryptos arrive

2020 is definitely the year of surprises and events on a global scale and the departure of Visa and MasterCard is not lacking.

After’addition in September of Bitcoin (BTC) and Litecoin to pay for its subscription, Pornhub no longer has any support for accepting fiat. Obviously happy with its experience with cryptocurrencies and the freedom offered by them, PornHub has made the choice to only support crypto. Yes, you read correctly, cryptocurrencies are now the only way to order on the Solitary Pleasures site.

So you can now take full advantage of the platform’s offers if you own one of the following 13 cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Dash (DASH), Ethereum (ETH), Ethereum Classic (ETC), Litecoin (LTC), Monero (XMR), NEM (XEM), Tether (USDT), Tron (TRX ), Verge (XVG), and Waves (WAVES) and ZCash (ZEC).

A new audience to conquer

It’s no secret that sex is an accelerator no matter the industry. With 42 billion visits per year, or about 115 million visitors per day, PornHub is among the 50 most visited sites in the world ! However, keep in mind that the company behind PornHub, MindGeek whose annual income is estimated between 0.5 and 1 billion euros per year, has other well-known websites and studios, the biggest being YouPorn (5 billion visits / year) and RedTube (1.4 billion visits / year).

We then find ourselves in a substantial market. Add to that cryptocurrency allowing anonymity and no doubt a new audience will be won over. The next question we have to ask ourselves is whether or not PornHub will offer its own cryptocurrency in the near future. After a brittle Bitcoin after nearly three years of its ATH, is porn the start of cryptocurrency adoption? This is a … hot topic to watch closely.

To this day, PornHub has chosen to do its own thing by cleaning up. Almost 9 million videos, or 60% of the platform’s offering, have been deleted. Is this a real awareness or a desire to see card deposits return to the platform, perhaps generating yet another false hope of adoption for our sector? We will see it soon enough, in the meantime never forget: protect yourself in all circumstances.
