The idea of a trade round table is gaining ground

The OGBL wanted it, the Minister of Middle Classes will organize it. But it remains to be agreed on who will end up in this discussion that looks like a tripartite.

The Minister for the Middle Classes, Lex Delles (DP), will soon be organizing a round table on the future of commerce. A sort of informal tripartite, taking up a suggestion made by the OGBL. Indeed, the union has supported such thinking since mid-November, and the launch of its initiative “Our businesses, our jobs, our future”.

For the OGBL, this “Zukunftsdësch Commerce” could be an opportunity to take stock of this sector of activity and discuss the challenges to come. Those linked to the health and economic crisis, to digitalization or to the problems arising from the high prices of commercial rents (and this despite the assumption of fixed costs decided by the government).

Among the new habits of Luxembourg Internet users, online ordering of take-out or home-delivered menus has taken off since last spring. But Statec has noted other changes.

If the union is satisfied to see the government thus seize one of its initiatives, nothing says that the ministers or the other partners will subscribe as much to the other wishes expressed by the formation directed for a year now by Nora Back. We already know Lex Delles little hot for the distribution of vouchers to be used in stores across the country, for example.

Knowing that the OGBL is also campaigning for a plan to maintain sector employment, a freeze on commercial rents for three years, a moratorium on new shopping centers, a sectoral collective labor agreement for small businesses and working hours clearly regulated.
