Lucapa Diamond: The Motahe mine also delivers extraordinary diamonds – columns

Diamond producer Lucapa Diamond Company (WKN A0M6U8 / ASX LOM) now operates two diamond mines – firstly the alluvial Lulo mine in Angola and, not quite that long, the Mothae kimberlite mine in Lesotho. Lucapa now reports the discovery of an extraordinary gemstone from the latter!

As the company and its partner, the government of the Kingdom of Lesotho, announced today, Mothae delivered a 101-carat white diamond of the color D and type IIa (“Mothae”) – ie of the highest quality. Famous diamonds like the Cullinan, Koh-i-Noor and Lesedi La Rona are for example Type IIa stones.

Lucapa has now been able to mine four diamonds with more than 100 carats from the southern tongue of the Motha kimberlite vent! As the company explains, the extraction of this exceptional gem confirms the quality and capacity of the Mothae resource, making it one of the world’s highest quality kimberlite diamond mines.

Lucapa and the government of Lesotho look forward to pro-rated more diamonds of this quality and size once the ongoing capacity expansion at Mothae is completed in the first quarter of 2021.

Lucapa’s Managing Director Stephen Wetherall sees the discovery of this extraordinary 100-carat diamond as a positive conclusion for Lucapa and his employees on Mothae. They are working with the government to expand capacity and look forward to producing more exceptional diamonds from this resource.

We are curious to see how the Mothae finds turn out once the capacity expansion is through and will continue to report to our readers.
