Germany’s largest hairdressing chain, the Klier Group, is closing 450 branches, according to a media report. 15 to 20 percent of the jobs should be eliminated, writes the “Bild” newspaper.
The chain operates around 1,350 salons in Germany. The company also includes hairdressing chains under the names Super Cut, Essanelle, Styleboxx or Hairexpress, and they are often located in train stations or in shopping centers.
In response to a request from t-online, Klier said: “Since there are still many discussions and negotiations going on about individual locations, all the figures that have now been given are speculations.” The company does not want to participate in this. “We ask for your understanding that we are currently unable to comment on the details of around 1,400 salons and shops.”
The redevelopment plan contains details of possible closings
At the beginning of September, Klier applied for protective shield proceedings at the Wolfsburg district court because of the corona pandemic. This is a special insolvency procedure in which a company is under a legal “protective shield” and is supposed to reorganize itself there without access from creditors – with the aim of averting bankruptcy. In the spring lockdown, all of the group’s stores had to close temporarily, which is why sales collapsed.
On Tuesday, the district court will decide whether bankruptcy proceedings will be opened against the company. Subsequently, “the restructuring plan will be submitted to the court and submitted to the creditors for a vote,” von Klier continued.
This plan describes how the Klier group wants to position itself for the future. “After the restructuring plan has been approved, we will first inform our employees and then other target groups about further details.”
In an earlier version of the text, no statement from Klier was available. This has now been installed.
