The Corona crisis is bringing a sustained boom in demand to DIY megastores with gardening centers in Germany. Overall, the do-it-yourself industry generated sales of around 17.3 billion euros in the first nine months. This corresponds to an increase of 15 percent compared to the previous year, reported the trade association for DIY, building and gardening (BHB) on Monday in Cologne.
Even in the third quarter, which is usually characterized by reluctance to buy in the main travel season and the approaching end of the gardening season, the industry continued to record double-digit growth. “That is certainly mainly due to the lack of travel opportunities,” said the industry association.
In addition, the growing importance of one’s own four walls in the pandemic led to many renovation, renovation and beautification projects being tackled.
According to the BHB, paints and painting accessories, garden equipment, wood, garden furniture and tools have been in particular demand in recent months. There was only a decline in sales in one product group – car accessories. This reflects the limited mobility of consumers in the Corona year, judged the association.
