In the “Personal-Financial.com House Compass 2019”, a total of 24 manufacturers of prefabricated and solid houses were examined. The ranking appeared for the first time in the Personal-Financial.com print edition 6/2019. In cooperation with renowned partners such as KPMG Law, Sentinel Haus Institut, Tetralog Systems and TÜV Rheinland, the four categories of information & service, contract & law, healthy living and quality & control were tested during the investigation.
In the “Information & Service” category, the consulting firm Tetralog Systems checked, among other things, how informative the website and how informative the brochure material is. Two thirds of the providers offer the option of configuring a dream home online, but the navigation and information architecture of websites are often still in need of improvement. In the “Contract and Law” category, the law firm KPMG Law examined how consistently the manufacturers implemented the construction law, which was revised in 2018, and how well customers are informed about their rights. In the “Healthy Living” category, the Sentinel Haus Institut (SHI) and TÜV Rheinland determined how companies use low-emission building materials, set limit values in contracts and have their houses certified. Internal and external controls and documentation also played an important role here. The category “Construction Quality & Control” took into account whether and how providers control building materials, structural work and interior work and whether it is measured how airtight the house is.
Manufacturers of prefabricated houses who are members of a quality community such as the Federal Association of German Prefabricated Construction (BDF) are subject to strict quality requirements. All solid house builders in the test can be assessed by independent testers from TÜV or Dekra, for example.
