BioNTech and its partner Pfizer will apply to the FDA today for emergency approval for their corona vaccine. The company announced this a few minutes ago. Almost at the same time, they want to submit the corresponding application to other authorities around the world. Based on the data known so far, approval of the application can be expected in the short term.
The first vaccines should therefore be able to be used in the USA in mid or late December. BioNTech plans to produce 50 million doses of the vaccine this year, as they said earlier. In 2021 it should be 1.3 billion cans. The distribution of the vaccine can begin quickly. A few hours after approval by the authorities, it can start.
This is the first vaccine that should be used against the corona pandemic. However, competitor Moderna is also on the way to applying for approval in a timely manner. At AstraZeneca, however, this should take a while.
