Nomadic Labs, the French company that boosts Tezos – Cryptocurrencies

France, this country full of values, technology and history. While many of you are familiar with Tezos (XTZ), a local blockchain that gives us global visibility, few are familiar with Nomadic Labs. Yet it is difficult to separate these two names. Today, we are highlighting these men and women who help ensure the sustainability of the Tezos blockchain. We therefore welcome Michel Mauny, President of Nomadic Labs, for an exclusive video interview.

Nomadic Labs: from technological excellence to industrial applications

Founded in 2015, Nomadic Labs is a R&D company, actively involved in development of Tezos. Nevertheless, restricting the production of Nomadic Labs to scientific and technical contributions would be somewhat reductive. With a Adoption and Support department, they also help with the adoption of the Tezos blockchain. How? ‘Or’ What ? By showing economic players how to easily implement their solutions on the blockchain. This pole is particularly important, because it acts as a bridge between crypto players who understand the issues and traditional players who have more difficulty understanding the nuances.

Tezos in 3 words?

Do I still need to present the protocol with French roots who regularly makes the headlines? I honestly think no. On the other hand, it is always interesting to see how the people in charge of such a project define it. For Michel Mauny, this ambitious project can be defined in a few words:

  1. Safety / reliability
  2. Scalability
  3. Eco-responsibility

If the technology blockchain is often put forward for its security, all are not equal on this point, Ethereum Classic (ETC) will be able to confirm it. In the case of Tezos, the use of programming languages like OCaml allows a formal verification of tools and smart contracts. Wait dear readers, don’t go so fast! To put it simply, although a little more difficult to use, OCaml greatly reduces the risk of bugs, so dreaded in our ecosystem.

“The programming language is solid, but who tells me programmers are good? “, Some will argue. Well, don’t worry, Michel Mauny worked for more than 10 years at the National Institute for Research in Digital Sciences and Technologies (Inria) where he notably led the teams responsible for the development of OCaml. A fine connoisseur of it, he naturally surrounded himself with acompetent team of French engineers and PhDs in computer science.

This security is reinforced by theTezos’ architecture that makes its blockchain more scalable. Although Nomadic Labs is one of the essential contributors to this development, the community also has a say! This can propose updates to the protocol, called amendments. These amendments are then debated within the community and then subject to a vote by holders of Tez (XTZ), the governance token of Tezos. If an amendment is validated, its instigator will be paid in XTZ to thank him for his contribution to the protocol.

Constantly asking the community about the future of Tezos avoids a large number of internal splits, called hard forks. Tezos thus respects the initial vision ofArthur and Kathleen breitman, its creators: not having the same community problems as Ethereum following the 2016 DAO hack.

Cryptoassets are highly volatile unregulated investment products. No EU investor protection. Your capital is at risk.

This governance is enabled by a protocol based on proof of stake (Proof of Stake, or PoS) already in place, where Ethereum seems to be treading water. PoS, by virtue of its architecture, is a much more environmentally friendly. In a world where the energy transition is an important issue, the adoption of new technologies must take this into account.

Tezos, crypto euro and national sovereignty

Tezos, a global blockchain with French roots, benefiting from essential contributions from Nomadic Labs, French actor, based in France, with French employees using local technologies, would he be there?allegory of our sovereign blockchain ? This is a possible debate. EDF, the national gendarmerie and many other players have already taken a stand.

What then is missing for real sovereignty? A state digital currency?

Look no further, a consortium of companies, led by Société Général Forge, is already involved in the call for tenders of the Banque de France on the experiment of central bank digital money (MDBC).

Shining nationally, but also internationally, Tezos and Nomadic Labs continue to amaze us. The road traveled by what was, only a simple ICO is still 3 years ago is awesome. There is no doubt that in these troubled times when questions of sovereignty are being brought up to date, Tezos shines with its potential.

Do you want to feel proud of French technology, have a global vision of hexagonal blockchain competence, or just know why Tezos cannot be compared to Ethereum? The easiest way is still to listen to Michel Mauny, President of Nomadic Labs, talk about it with verve and passion in the smallest details.
