Vitalik Butterin Announces Trump President? – Cryptocurrencies

A few hours before the next presidential election, all the “mainstream” polls seem to show that Joe Biden would be the next president of the United States of America. However within blockchain-based prediction markets, the situation is a little different. Trump would be the winner.

Vitalik’s take on US election predictions

Indeed Vitalik, through his tweets, highlights that this difference would be the consequence of a different approach.

He formulates three hypotheses:

  • The first being that classic poll pools do not take into account intentional or unintentional errors that can occur. They are only based on a statistical model and assume that the voting process during election is fair.
  • The second being that classic prediction markets would not be enough liquids to really be representative.
  • The third point and not the least that he ended up withdrawing, being that analysts and polling companies would be nothing more than “inveterate morons“. He adds that they would not have learned from their mistakes and citizens unexpected pro-Trump in the 2016 election.

The only thing we know for sure after these elections is that Bitcoin will be the winner

The future president of the United States will have an impact on international politics of the country and on the lives of its citizens who today remain uncertain. Indeed, despite the programs they were able to present, it is now impossible to know how the population will react. The pro-Trump talk about riots over Joe Biden’s wins. At the time of this writing we are at 238 electors for Joe biden and 213 for Donald trump. Remember that whoever reaches the number of 270 great voters will be elected. The only thing that seems certain is that Bitcoin (BTC) will enjoy growth as a result of these elections.

This rant from Vitalik Buterin would perhaps hide the disappointment of not seeing his alternative solution to the conventional voting process used. Indeed with his collaborator Glen Weyl they developed a procedure called “quadratic voting” or in French quadratic voting which would be a more equitable solution. A real question arises around these debates, to what extent is the population influenced during elections? We remember the controversy around Facebook in 2016 which allegedly oriented the content of some of its users to favor Trump. Are we going to see new shocking revelations in the post-election period?
