The federal ministers have learned these professions

Many a top politician has never had another job. Whether this is beneficial for political culture in Germany is a matter of great debate. The fact is: if you have not “learned” anything else, you have no obvious alternative to a career in the party. Many a federal minister preferred to gain professional experience and drive for political engagement in other areas.

Certain professional groups are particularly well represented in the federal government. Many federal ministers studied law and political science. All were enrolled at a university – but some took their time with graduation. Incidentally, some members of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s (CDU) cabinet are educators. Does that help when dealing with difficult colleagues?
