Payment company Dlocal – the unknown Adyen competitor

dLocal founder Sebastian KanovichPR

In mid-September, Uruguayan Sebastián Kanovich received a special honor: The founder of the fintech Dlocal was able to collect 200 million dollars from investors for his company – Dlocal thus became the first unicorn in his home country. The company handles payments for tech giants such as Spotify, Uber and Amazon in 26 markets, mainly emerging markets.

Kanovich sees his company as a door opener for his customers in markets where they still have a lot of potential. There is hardly an interview in which he does not mention that Dlocal is the “Adyen for emerging countries”.

DLocal offers a complete solution for its customers; customers without a credit card or bank account can also be reached. But the business is heavily dependent on what and how much the tech companies in the emerging markets want to achieve. Kanovich’s bet: these markets are on the rise.
