After the Spuerkeess in February, another Luxembourg bank is pulling the curtain from several of its branches. An “adjustment” accelerated by the health context and “the increasing use of digital solutions”.

(DH) – Thursday, at the end of the day, BGL BNP Paribas announced the closure of seven out of 41 bank branches that the Luxembourg bank has across the country.

According to the bank’s press release, “this adjustment was notably accelerated (…) by the growing use of digital solutions for day-to-day banking transactions with a simultaneous request for personal support for specific needs such as real estate loans or investment advice ”.

Closed since the start of containment, the agencies of Bettembourg, Clervaux, Esch-Benelux, Jardins de Luxembourg, Larochette, Vianden and Wasserbillig are concerned. As for the staff of these agencies, “their directors and advisers, as they have done since mid-March, serve their clients from other agencies“.

The State Bank and Savings Bank has announced a reorganization which, on March 27, will result in a vast reorganization of its network. Thus, the number of branches should be reduced to 54 for the whole of Luxembourg.

The bank also explains that it wants to adapt “to changes in customer behavior towards their bank and to the development of digital services”. An evolution further accelerated by the pandemic.

As a reminder, the Grand Duchy has 184 bank branches. At the start of the year, Spuerkeess took a similar stance, announcing the closure of 11 out of 65 branches.
