According to the famous Dutch department store, the start is well in time ‘to come and look safely and responsibly and to choose from the most beautiful Christmas accessories, special gifts and the new range of toys, and to make use of the special Christmas services.’
Safety comes first when shopping for the holidays
‘The festive period will start extra early this year at De Bijenkorf to offer everyone the opportunity to shop safely and quietly. The shops will be open longer from 27 November 2020. The busyness in the stores is continuously monitored via the pressure monitor on the website, so that visitors can see the current and expected busyness online or in the app before coming to the store. Thanks to the generous return period of 60 days, purchases can still be exchanged or returned after the festive months. ‘
From November, the department stores will offer the option of shopping by appointment from Monday to Friday, when it is quieter in the shops, with an employee who helps with advice, choosing, fitting and festive packing, says De Bijenkorf. Customers can also have jewelry and watches provided with a personal engraving. ‘In front of members this service is free. Customers who prefer not to come to the store can of course contact deBijenkorf.nl online. Various interactive online masterclasses can also be found here in November and December, including a tasting, baking gingerbread cookies with children, and lots of beauty topics from various brands, whereby the participants themselves get to work with the corresponding products. ‘
Machiel Lagerweij, Operations Director: ‘Our biggest challenge during the festive period is to spread the crowds well. That is why we are starting extra early this year, extending our opening hours by 10% and offering additional services, such as shopping by appointment during quiet times. Gift wrapping will be more scattered and faster to avoid crowds in the store. We already notice from the demand for festive items and gifts that people have a great need for warmth and cosiness during the coming holidays. ‘
The traditional tree in red, green and gold is still a much-loved classic. Anyone who wants something different this year can choose from various themes, such as At the North Pole, with lots of white, penguins, moose and polar bears or In the Winter Garden, with cute little animals, twigs and berries in natural tones. Exuberant and colorful are the themes Merry Feest and Blessed Circus. Vondels and Kurt Adler made a number of unique Christmas ornaments, inspired by the Bijenkorf, in the context of our 150th anniversary.
Opening of a new toy department
From October 10, 2020, the toy department will be opened in all stores, with a completely renewed range and new brands, including Lego, Playmobil, Hasbro, Jumbo, Ravensburger and Amsodee. So lots of toys, for the (very) smallest to slightly older children, but also board games and puzzles for the whole family. You will also find electric cars from Ricco exclusively at the Bijenkorf, which has licenses for well-known brands such as BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari and Lamborghini. In the Bijenkorf Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam pop-ups of Lego with spectacular, life-size buildings can be admired, including that of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima in The Hague.
