Will Ethereum (ETH) 2.0 eventually come out of the labs and minds of its developers and Vitalik Buterin? You know the proverb: the best is the enemy of the good. One more update, one more testnet: it’s good to start a project, but you also have to know how to finish it, even if it means straining a little.
The Layer-2 play a leading role
Vitalik Buterin recently made some updates lasting 5-10 years to the roadmap ofEthereum 2.0.
He recognizes that with the explosion of transaction fees, the main difficulty facing the network Ethereum (ETH) is its scalability.
The development of Layer-2 type solutions (over the current protocol) brings new possibilities to solve this problem.
Buterin believes that the scalability of the ecosystem ETH will mainly go through layer-2 in the short and medium term.
The first phases of the deployment ofEthereum 2.0 will allow basic layer data availability before traditional Tier 1 applications can be used.
The result will therefore be an increase in the amount of information that can be contained in the blocks and not an increase in the efficiency of calculation and processing of input and output operations.
One last after the last: will it never end?
A blockchain built with layer-2 on top is changing the long-term vision of ’Ethereum : for Buterin, the blockchain architecture will include a single highly secure shard and a data availability layer.
The integration of layer-2 should increase the computational capacity ofEthereum from 15 TPS to 100,000 TPS.
Buterin does not exclude the roadmap from being subject to subsequent modifications.
Meanwhile, the launch of Spadina, which was to be the last testnet before the release ofEthereum 2.0, was carried out at the beginning of October 2020.
Unfortunately, running the 3-day testnet encountered many difficulties, including too few participants and invalid deposit requests.
Another testnet baptized Zinken, will be done before launchingETH 2.0.
Cryptoassets are highly volatile unregulated investment products. No EU investor protection. Your capital is at risk.
We wait for the world to change, we wait for the weather to change: those of Ethereum. The low participation rate in Spadina should still make Vitalik Buterin tick: is the community losing interest in ETH 2.0 which is long overdue? Without a launch, you are entitled to one update and one extra testnet.
