Comparison portal Check24 is now a bank

VA few weeks ago Check24 achieved a coup. The internet company has launched a new comparison portal – but what a comparison! Unlike its forerunners for insurance, energy prices, cell phone tariffs and more, the comparison portal for checking accounts is certified by TÜV Saarland. This gave a quasi-state certification that objective information was provided. In contrast to other Check24 sites, the “Verified comparison website for payment accounts” does not have the purpose of selling any products and collecting commissions for them. How serious the new comparison portal really is and whether it deserves its seal of approval will be shown in a few days. Check24 will then offer a current account itself and recommend it to Germans. It is difficult to imagine that the portal guardian would only appear on the comparison list under “also ran”.

Account, credit, time deposit – everything from Check24

So far, Check24 has mainly acted as an intermediary for financial services. As such, the company is not undisputed. On the one hand, it demands hefty commissions from the companies that conclude contracts with consumers via the portal. On the other hand, the comparisons are not as neutral as often assumed. Some offers appear preferred. Check24 itself offers some financial products, but partner banks are needed for this. For installment loans, which are currently available for minus interest of 0.4 percent, Check24 depends on the SWK Bank. With overnight and fixed-term deposits, which run through Fintech partner Deposit Solutions, each saver ultimately ends up in an account at Sutor Bank.
