The luxury group LVMH, which holds brands like Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior, actually wanted to take over the US jeweler Tiffany. But now the French company is raising concerns.

The takeover of the US jeweler Tiffany by the French luxury goods group LVMH is about to end. Complications related to the proposed $ 16 billion purchase may necessitate a withdrawal, LVMH warned on Wednesday, citing a request from the French Foreign Ministry.

According to this, the acquisition should take place after January 6th at the earliest, because otherwise there is a risk of additional US tariffs on products from France. In addition, according to LVMH, Tiffany has asked for a postponement until the end of the year after the deadline had already been postponed to November 24th. LVMH rejects this: “According to the current status, the group is therefore not in a position to carry out the acquisition of Tiffany.”

Tiffany, in turn, apparently wants to continue under the LVMH roof, which also includes Louis Vuitton, TAG Heuer, Christian Dior and Dom Perignon champagne. The US company announced that a lawsuit had been filed to force the takeover. The aim is a purchase on the terms agreed last year.
