“Together we can do it.” That was the Corona video message from the Hamburg cult choir “Die Hamburger Goldkehlchen” together with Budni in the spring. The loving, cute “Budni” is short for one of the largest drugstore chains in the Hamburg metropolitan region: Iwan Budnikowsky. Founded in 1912, the company is now represented in Germany with 180 branches and around 1950 employees, most of them in the Hamburg area, but since the partnership with Edeka entered into in 2017, it has expanded throughout Germany – for example to Bamberg, Mannheim and Offenburg.

The company is proud of the fact that only three people have been at the top in over 100 years of company history, and values this as a sign of continuity and reliability. This goes well with the choir and mask raffle campaign during Corona times – Budni’s focus is on customers, social responsibility is a top priority. With the association Budnianer Hilfe e.V., founded by employees, the company is committed to children and young people in the vicinity of the branches and is committed to sustainability in the range of products, the delivery of goods and the operation of the branches.

Today the company is managed by the third generation of Cord Wöhlke, whose father once married the daughter of the company founder and who has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit as a promoter of integration and education. His wife also received this award for her social commitment. The couple has supported numerous children and youth projects for many years – especially in the Hamburg area.

For the ranking “Most Attractive Employers in the City” Statista selected 3,200 employers from 25 cities – and had the employees vote on site. Around 13,600 employees who either live in the respective cities or within a radius of 25 kilometers took part in the survey in March 2020. Not only did they rate their own employer, they were also able to submit ratings for other local companies. The respondents also assessed whether companies at the location are active both economically and for charitable purposes – and whether they act in a socially responsible manner towards their own employees and business partners.
