The expansion to the Zaanstreek-Waterland region is part of the national roll-out of Picnic, which delivers to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Ede, Veenendaal and Venlo, among others, and which started last year in Apeldoorn, Deventer and Spijkenisse, among others. The number of customers rose to more than 400,000 in 2019, spread over 100 Dutch places.
The places in the North Holland region have relatively many households with children. In all four areas, around 40 percent of households have children, while the average in the Netherlands is 33 percent. “These families are generally very busy keeping all the balls in the air: work, hobbies of children and the parents. The free time, let alone the time to go to the supermarket, is very limited. We can accommodate them with our delivery service, “explains co-founder Michiel Muller.
