Chipmaker optimistic: Micron and Infineon see potential

The US chip manufacturer Micron Technologies has a convincing business quarter and is optimistic about the future. Infineon is also looking to the future with confidence and has discovered the medical industry for itself.

The most important thing about Micron and Infineon in advance:

  • Micron exceeds analysts’ expectations and forecasts
  • Infineon plans to enter the cardiovascular monitoring system market

Micron specializes in DRAM and flash memory chips. DRAM is the type of memory commonly used in PCs and servers, while flash memory chips are used in USB drives and smaller devices such as digital cameras. The chipmaker is resistant to the Corona crisis and achieved adjusted earnings of 82 cents a share and $ 5.44 billion in revenue in the quarter just ended. Analysts had expected adjusted earnings of 75 cents per share and sales of $ 5.27 billion.

Products on Micron Technology

Micron remains optimistic: For the upcoming fourth quarter, the chip manufacturer is forecasting sales of $ 5.75 to $ 6.25 billion, a large increase over the previous year and well above the analysts’ estimates. They predict average sales of $ 5.46 billion after Micron reported $ 4.87 billion in the fourth quarter of last fiscal year.

The German semiconductor group Infineon has taken a look at a multi-billion dollar market. Together with a US start-up, the DAX® company wants to enter the market for portable cardiovascular monitoring devices. According to the information, the market entry should have taken place by the next year.

Products on Infineon Technologies

Infineon plans to develop a blood pressure sensor that can be used to perform blood pressure measurements wirelessly, continuously and with high precision. For this purpose, the chip company is working with the US company Blumio. While Infineon is bringing its so-called radar chips into the cooperation and making funds and other resources available, software and algorithms come from Blumio. According to Infineon, the market opportunities for sensor technology are great. The group estimates the market for portable cardiovascular monitoring systems at around $ 45 billion annually. Infineon will also market the new technology.
