New trucks for the Bundeswehr: The armaments manufacturer Rheinmetall will deliver 4,000 new trucks to the army in the coming years – the Bundeswehr will transfer several billion euros.
The armaments company Rheinmetall has again received a major order from the Bundeswehr. A framework agreement has been signed for up to 4,000 military trucks, many of them with armored cabins. The Düsseldorf company announced on Thursday.
The contract, which runs from 2021 to 2027, has a volume of up to two billion euros. Although the weapon systems are not expensive, the order volume is relatively large in view of the federal government’s defense budget. In total, almost 10.6 billion euros are available for investments in the Bundeswehr for the current year 2020.
Delivery of vehicles from 2021
The first batch therefore comprises 540 vehicles. Rheinmetall should already receive 348 million euros for this. Delivery is scheduled for 2021 so that the armed forces will have enough vehicles when Germany takes over the leadership of a NATO spearhead two years later.
Rheinmetall already won a large order from the German armed forces for military vehicles in 2017. More than half of 2,271 vehicles have already been delivered, it said in a message.
