More and more skyscrapers are shooting up: Japan’s tallest building should soon appear in the Tokyo skyline.
As the real estate company Mori Building Co. recently announced, according to Reuters, a new skyscraper will decorate the Tokyo skyline within the next few years. In the center of the metropolis, in the Toranomon-Azabudai area, a new district is being planned, which according to the real estate company is a “city redevelopment project”. After 30 years of negotiations and planning with the landowners, the groundbreaking ceremony was held in early August.
“A city within a city”
According to the information, the new quarter will be built on an area of approximately 8.1 hectares. In addition to galleries, museums, shops and a luxury hotel, vegetable gardens are also planned – in this way “a city within a city” should be created, explained Mori Building boss Shingo Tsuji. Around 24,000 square meters of the total area should therefore be kept free for green areas, 6,000 square meters are intended for a large central square. Sustainable aspects should also not be neglected: According to Mori Building Co., the entire electricity requirement should be covered by renewable energies.
Tokyo continues to grow
There are also plans for three high-rise buildings that will house around 20,000 office workers and 1,400 residential units, in which around 3,500 residents can be accommodated. The main tower will be 64 storeys high and will be around 330 meters high – making it the tallest building in the country.
“In an era of global intercity competition, people agreed that Tokyo had to be ahead of Hong Kong, Singapore, New York and London,” Tsuji said in a press conference.
The global real estate market remains attractive. grundbesitz global invests worldwide in commercial real estate from the areas of office, logistics and retail. Why this is interesting for private investors.
For this reason, the “British School”, which is attended by around 700 students from over 50 countries, should be housed in the new district. The aim is to strengthen Tokyo’s competitiveness as an international city – in this way global companies and employees from abroad are to be recruited. “We have to attract people from all over the world, their businesses, their financial resources,” Tsuji continued. “Tokyo needs a facility that attracts people, goods and capital. We believe that this type of massive redevelopment will strengthen the city’s profile. ”
The completion of the “city within the city” is planned for 2023. The cost is expected to be around $ 5 billion.
