The Royal Residence on the top floor of the Hotel Atlantis opens its doors and reveals marble, gold and breathtaking luxury furnishings.
Luxury in Zurich
The luxury hotel Atlantis in Zurich has 95 rooms and suites, an indoor and outdoor pool, a spa and a hairdressing salon. There are two restaurants on a total area of almost 2,000 square meters, including the “Ecco”, which has been awarded two Michelin stars. The biggest peculiarity, however, can be found on the top floor of the hotel: the Suite Royal Residence. With a size of over 20,000 square meters, it is the largest and probably most luxurious suite in Europe. The former Emir of Qatar, Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, originally wanted to move in there. Today the suite can be booked on request and offers every conceivable luxury.
The Royal Residence
The suite remained a secret for a long time, but it can now even be rented on request, as stern.de reported. The Royal Residence is not only the largest, but probably also the most extravagant luxury hotel suite in Europe. The three-wing penthouse extends over the entire top floor of the hotel and is surrounded by an 830 square meter outdoor terrace. The interior design is a combination of classic French furniture and elaborate craftsmanship and contrasts with the elegant, modern aesthetics of the hotel’s other 95 rooms. Marble floors, gilded details and oriental designs complete the picture of the sumptuous luxury suite. There is also said to be an alabaster bidet in the bathroom, which alone cost a medium five-figure amount.
Thousand and one Night
The ornate furniture and the carved coffered ceilings create a scene that is reminiscent of “A Thousand and One Nights”. The Royal Residence offers a total of eight bedrooms and eight bathrooms, two lounges, a lobby with two private elevators and a spacious dining room. A 24-hour butler and cleaning service, our own chef, private wellness treatments and a concierge are also available during your stay. To complete the luxury, guests of the Royal Residence can use a Rolls-Royce shuttle service. A private underground car park with its own elevator guarantees the greatest possible privacy. Interested guests can find out the price of an overnight stay only on request. According to stern.de, you should plan the purchase price of an upper middle class car per night.

Reason for construction
The former Emir of Qatar, Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, originally wanted to move in there. Due to a coup, he remained in exile in Switzerland in 1995 and subsequently resided in a Zurich luxury hotel. When he became aware of the vacant Atlantis in 2004, he decided to invest in the hotel. The 70s building had once been the city’s trendy hotel, but had changed hands in the 1990s and was eventually used as accommodation for asylum seekers. Today the building is a listed building and has been completely renovated. It was only in 2015 that the Atlantis by Giardino was reopened as a retro-look design hotel and today comprises 95 rooms. The top floor, however, remained inaccessible to the public for the time being. But Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani never moved in there because he died shortly before completion.
